At the heart of all of our work at MJDS is the child. We start with our understanding of the developmental needs of children and build our program around the ways in which children gather information, acquire and apply skills, and share what they have come to know.
The content of our curriculum reflects the varied interests of elementary students, and provides them with challenges that we believe will enhance growth and stimulate engagement with classroom experiences. Our curriculum looks at the whole child and celebrates multiple intelligences.
It is, of course, the teachers who bring curriculum to life. Our faculty bring a wealth of experiences from other schools and from our community. Personally committed to lifelong learning, they offer the critical human dimension that connects the developing child with the core curriculum.
In 2003 MJDS had a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon its curriculum, and all aspects of its program, as it attained accreditation by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).
MJDS’s curriculum is dynamic, with changes reflecting the needs of individual students and current research. Each year the MJDS faculty reviews individual areas of the curriculum. In particular, the curriculum summary reflects work done over the last few years to further enhance on the school’s literacy, t’fillah (prayer), science, and math curriculums. It is also clearly a work in progress reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen continuity between grades.
